Pre-Sales Engineer

*This is a remote position, we are looking for someone in the Greater Chicago Area*



A Momentum Pre-Sales Engineer (official title: Solutions Design Engineer) will serve as the primary technical resource for Momentum’s sales organization. This may include channel partners, channel partner sub agents, and wholesale accounts. The SDE will design and specify the technology solutions for organizations in many different market verticals. The SDE is responsible for reviewing and modifying all proposals to ensure accuracy and details. This individual must possess the ability to easily interface with customers, quickly understand their requirements, and articulate how Momentum’s product set / solution will integrate with their organization. This individual must possess the ability to understand customer requirements and have a solid technical understanding of enterprise solutions, video, audio, and data/networking.



  • Determine customer requirements for full functionality of the Momentum solution
  • Design complete Momentum solutions and presented in verbal, written and drawing format
  • Interface with the Momentum Implementation team to supply clarity on design details
  • Assist and support the Momentum sales organization throughout the sales cycle
  • Builds relationships with customers serving as the technical liaison from pre-sales to post-sales
  • Provide demos of all Momentum products and software
  • Train & retrain colleagues, customers, channel partners and wholesale accounts
  • Participates in strategic and tactical account planning
  • Assist in new & existing product development; real-world application testing prior to market release
  • Develop enhanced system / call flow configurations and custom implementations
  • Creating network diagrams and call flow diagrams, including complex designs
  • Assisting with RFP and RFI responses
  • Perform site surveys of assigned accounts
  • Update existing documentation for products, training documents and user manuals
  • Attend trade shows, conferences and other off-site customer centric activities
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented enterprise customers
  • Leads internal cross-functional teams to obtain required approvals of non-standard designs
  • Install all customer solutions assigned
  • Assist in support related matters as assigned




  • Sales experience strongly preferred
  • Strong Networking skills required
  • Strong working knowledge of routers and their functions
  • Solid experience with Data/IP Designs (WAN/LAN), Hosted PBX (Broadsoft preferred), SIP Trunks
  • Experience with QOS, MPLS, HTTP, SIP, NAT, Video, firewalls, and router configurations.
  • Ability to train technical and non-technical people
  • Ability to provide dynamic demonstrations

  • Must have stable/consistent internet connection – subscription to a reliable, high-speed, hard-wired, bi-directional internet connection




  • Must have the ability to use a computer, associated software products (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite) and the Internet
  • Must have the ability to use specialized software products which includes: Microsoft Windows, Apple Products, Android Products, Linux, OSC, Lync,
  • Configure, test, and maintain LAN/WAN/Voice equipment and related services
  • Identifies, diagnoses, and resolves network / VOIP related issues
  • Strong Router Skills (Edgemarc, Cisco, Adtran preferred)
  • Knowledge of DHCP, VLANS, DNS, T-1, TCP/IP, SIP, Minet, preferred
  • Solid experience with Data/IP Designs (WAN/LAN), Hosted PBX (Broadsoft preferred), SIP Trunks
  • Experience with QOS, MPLS, HTTP, SIP, NAT, Video, firewalls, and router configurations.
  • Broadsoft experience a plus
  • Strong written and verbal communication a must
  • Must demonstrate ability to utilize Salesforce within 3-6 months of hire. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate proficiency in utilizing Momentum Telecom products and services within 6 months of hire.




  • A four-year undergraduate degree or equivalent knowledge/experience is required.
  • Minimum three years of Technical Sales / Network Engineering experience is required.
